International Design Competition 2018 Global Winner Announced
Congratulations to Lucy Polson, a textile design, sustainable coloration student from Massey University, New Zealand who was named ‘global winner’ of the 2018 International Design Competition at the prestigious grand final on 26th November. Hosted at the historical Artworkers’ Guild, London, the event also incorporated a half day seminar ‘Colouring The Future’ with respected industry speakers focusing on the challenges and opportunities around the competition theme ‘colour communication’. The competition was sponsored by Archroma and entrants were tasked with referencing their designs using The Color Atlas by Archroma.
Against tough competition from fourteen regional winners from around the world bubbling with creative energy, Lucy was singled out by the judges for her ‘beautiful use of colour … simple patterns and shapes to form a modern and graphic display on a simple dress shape.’
Lucy, the first ever winner from New Zealand comments “It is such a privilege to represent Australia and New Zealand – I am beyond excited to gain new knowledge meeting with likeminded people on a global scale. I cannot thank SDC enough for such an amazing opportunity”.
Notable runners up were Mingcheng Zhang from Anhui Polytechnic University China, for his design ‘Bilulanlv’ and Yasemin Yasar from Nottingham Trent University in the UK for her design Natural Land(e)scapes.
