Date: October 23, 2014 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Location: The Horse & Groom, 462 Radford Road, New Basford, Nottingham NG7 7EA

  • SDC Midlands Region warmly invite you to their first lecture of the new season, Wonderful World of Colour presented by SDC President Richard Straughan of STP Ltd. This is a joint event with the Nottingham Society of Technical Dyers (NSTD).

Richard started his career in textiles with the Coats Patons Group at their factory Jeremiah Amblers Ltd as a trainee dyer and went on to work for Elton Cop Dyeing, LB Holliday & Co Ltd and Dykem North.

In 1981 he started LJ Specialities and in 2003 he became part of Speciality Textile Products Ltd (STP), the European agent for Kyung In Synthetic Corp and also acting as their European office for all sales and service. STP also specialise in other areas such as the supply of micro-encapsulated thermochromics, photochromics, fragrances and cosmetics for textile and non textile end uses.

Textile coloration has been and still is the major part of Richard’s business life. However over the last few years Richard has been very interested in the many and very varied uses of dyes and pigments outside of textiles and the way these colours are adapted for use. His lecture will be broken into four areas:
1 Textiles – a brief summary of the dyeing and printing of cellulose (cotton) with Reactive dyes.
2 OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) – used in TV Screens and monitors
    3 Security pigments
4 Molecular imaging – a new technology which has a growing impact on our lives
