  • Penny Walsh – Natural Dyer, AO Textiles Ltd

Penny is a graduate of the RCA and studied, on a British Council scholarship, traditional hand weaving and the use of natural dyes in Norway. This started her interest in sustainable methods of textile production. Her dye studio is regularly commissioned by interior and costume designers and textile restorers. Much of this work involves achieving extensive colour and tone ranges using only natural dyestuffs, while developing techniques for its practical use.

Penny’s work is based on both historic recipes and advice from chemists to make them applicable for the 21st century. Research into plant dyes worldwide and the use of low impact mordants and assistants has enabled her to use these sources of colour in all aspects of her design work.

Tracy Saunders – Technical Manager/Technology & Innovation, John Lewis plc

Tracy’s career over the past 21 years has included working for a variety of different clothing and non-food retailers and manufacturers, predominantly in the field of technical, quality, product development and supplier management. She has always had a love for beautifully made products, so as a Category Technical Manager for the John Lewis Partnership Tracy is able to work with teams to bring great products to life!

Tracy works as part of the Product Technology & Innovation team and currently leads the technologists in Home, covering Furniture, Textiles & Carpets and Cook & Dine in all aspects of product development.

    Rona Bierrum – Gemmologist

Rona is a Gemmologist and dealer in Fine Jewellery specializing in Cartier, Van Cleef et Arpels, and Boivin jewels from the last century.  She also works as a Gemmology Tutor for the Gemmological Association of Great Britain, delivering their Diploma in Gemmology course on a part time basis.  She holds degrees in Fine Art and Fine Art History from London Guildhall and the Open University respectively; along with the FGA and DGA qualifications from Gem-A.
