  • You are warmly invited to attend this joint lecture presented by Barry Start on Thursday 26 October at the Horse and Groom, Nottingham, 7.30 for 7.45pm.

In over seventy years the Macpherson Organisation grew to become a world leader in the field of supply and service to the Textile and Clothing Industry.

By the late 1980’s, carrying out the Macpherson service worldwide there were over 300 highly trained specialists – including salesmen, technologists, engineers, linguists, designers and instructors.

Products sold represented a wide spectrum of the Textile and Clothing Industry, with particular emphasis on textile machinery, surface decoration techniques (embroidery, screen printing, embossing, monogramming etc.), automated machinery for household textiles, making-up machinery, a wide range of industrial yarns and the well known embroidery machines made by Barudan.

Through this international network the Macpherson Organisation came to understand world markets and the needs of suppliers and customers. Macphersons became a leading authority in the identifying, developing and promoting of new products and processes.

Commercial communication was undertaken in the language of the country and Macphersons were familiar with international trading customs and practice.  At its height Macphersons had a group worldwide sales turnover of over 60 million pounds sterling.

Following the contraction of the UK Textile Industry and with a significant pension deficit, Macpherson’s eventually finished trading in 2006. The story of the company mirrors the profile of the UK Textile Industry over a period of 70 years.

A buffet will be available after the lecture therefore please confirm your attendance to Keith Bolam, email:
