Day of Celebration 2014
Date: May 16, 2014 11:00 am – 11:00 pm
Location: Merchant Adventurers' Hall, Fossgate, York, YO1 9XD
You are invited to attend the SDC’s Day of Celebration 2014, which includes the AGM, awards ceremony, President’s reception and celebration black-tie dinner. The event also includes the grand final of the SDC Innovation Award 2014.
We strongly recommend you book early – this is a busy week in York and accommodation is filling up quickly! Below you will see we have introduced a number of ways to assist you in your planning.
Over the years our Day of Celebration has been held in many different UK locations. Recently it has taken place in Bradford, and having listened to feedback, we decided to look further afield for 2014. Our criteria were very specific: somewhere with a link to the ethos of the SDC, plenty of character, good food and easy to access by car, rail and air. After looking at numerous options, we are absolutely delighted to be holding the 2014 event at the Merchant Adventurers’ Hall in central York. The construction of this stunning Medieval Guild Hall began in 1357. The Merchant Adventurers were the entrepreneurs and venture capitalists of their day, and the Hall today retains many of its links to Guilds including the Dyers, Drapers, Tailors and Millers. For more information on the venue see http://www.theyorkcompany.co.uk

York is easily accessed by public transport and we would encourage you to take advantage of this.
By air – York is very easy to access from Manchester airport with frequent direct trains from the airport itself to York. Other airports are also easily accessible.
By train – there is an excellent and frequent train service to York. If you book your rail tickets online in advance then standard rail travel can be very inexpensive indeed from any part of the UK.
By car – York is accessed from the A1/M1/M62 main links along the A64 in around 20 minutes. Parking – there are 13 city centre Council car parks (see http://www.york.gov.uk/info/200233/car_parks/324/car_parks ), 4 NCP Car Parks (see http://www.ncp.co.uk/find-a-car-park) plus other car parks (eg one either side of the railway station).
York has a wide range of accommodation within and around the city. Prices vary considerably and you have a number of options:
- to help with your plans Visit York have organised a dedicated York Hotels web page for the event. The link is here. This allows you to access details of a variety of accommodation to suit needs and budget. The SDC does not make anything from your bookings but we hope this makes it easier. There is a host of other York information there also to help you with your stay.
- the SDC has reserved a number of hotels to suit different budgets. We have a limited number of rooms available to members on a first come, first served basis. You can find further details in the ‘documents’ tab, or please ask for details but be quick – they’re going fast!
- or you are welcome to make your own accommodation arrangements.
York is a much sought after destination and the longer you leave your planning the less choice you will have and the more it will cost you! So we urge you to book your attendance and your accommodation early.
